Nick Waterhouse is a Santa Ana based singer/songwriter/producer who first came on the scene in 2010 swinging raucous brassy Rhythm and Blues. After his hugely successful debut album, he produced the Allah-Las‘ debut using techniques and instruments from the 1960s (just like he did on his record) and toured the world incessantly.
One of the first cuts available from his sophomore album, Holly, is a cover of Ty Segall’s IT#3, a song composed to soundtrack the Saint Laurent F/W 2013 catwalk.
Waterhouse’s rendition is the sonic equivalent to having a drink on the balcony of the Garcia House in 1962, overlooking the valley, and suddenly noticing that there’s a sugar cube at the bottom of your glass – what did that beatnik you met by the fireplace put in your whiskey, and why are the lights starting to form shapes and patterns? Better go back in an turn the music up.
Have a listen to IT#3 below and go get Holly, out on Innovative Leisures on March 4th.
