FRUIT JUICE — NEW CINEMA

FRUIT JUICE

Fruit Juice are from what used to be one of punk capitals of the world: Olympia, Washington.  Much in contrast from their home town’s musical history though, they play dreamy, soft psychedelic pop with tinges of glam that’s equally reminiscent of Marc Bolan and the original glammers as it is of newer bands like Foxygen, MGMT and Of Montreal. Keeping the playful, quasi-infantile vibes floating on an oneirically picturesque soundscape makes their music ethereally catchy and will have you instantly tapping your foot in the clouds. Their debut EP terra-fi (terrify) is a beautiful collection of songs perfect for summer dreaming and has just been released on Tacoma label Swoon Records.

New Cinema is sitting down on a bench in the late morning observing people passing you by, following them with a stare from afar and seeing them pass in front of you, to then watch them disappear back into their routines. A businessman late for a meeting, two friends laughing and staring at the sky, a crying woman chased by an apologetic man and an old man taking his morning walk all make an cameo in your matinee. As your mind wanders you start imagining the mental and physical places each individual was coming from and where this journey will be taking them. As you look around and think about the last person you saw you notice somebody looking at you and then quickly looking away and realise you’ve just become a pawn in your own game.
