Viet Cong was formed last year by Matthew Flegel and Michael Wallace, former members of Canadian post-noise band Women. Story goes that they were shopping their EP around for a while before Mexican Summer found it and put it in its catalog. The EP, simply named Cassette, will see an official release on July 8th while, and if Static Wall is anything to go by, is gonna be a lo-fi pearl made of cosmic microwave background radiations.
Static Wall is like stepping inside the TV set you used to watch as a kid, right at the moment your favourite tape finished playing and static started played on the screen. As you enter this flickering, black and white world you find a depth you never knew existed. What you once found to be the most annoying image to see has now become the most beautiful and intricate vision your eyes have ever seen. You walk towards what seems to be a one of the four walls around you, only to find that its texture to be like one of a marshmallow. As you push on the wall colours start to burst where the white dots were and you start forming patterns around you. You soon learn to control the pressure and the vision to and create an ever-evolving new world where the only constant is change.
